Mousse care

Mousse (foam insert) replaces the inner tube for puncture-proof off-road running. It is a race and trail tool — treat install and maintenance with respect.

When to use

Mousse shines in Motocross, Enduro and Rally where punctures end the day. It is not a casual road product. Confirm your rim, tyre and mousse are a matched combination.

Install notes (high level)

  • Fit by a trained mechanic when possible. Correct lubricant, seating and break-in matter.
  • Respect the mousse and tyre size pairing.
  • Follow the insert manufacturer’s install sheet for torque, rim lock and run-in distance.
  • Improper install can overheat the foam, damage the carcass or leave an unsafe bead.

This page does not provide a full install procedure.

Maintenance

  • Watch for carcass heat after long high-speed transfers — mousse runs hotter than air.
  • Inspect for carcass wear against the foam and for chunking after rocky events.
  • Replace mousse when it packs out, crumbles or no longer supports the tyre profile.
  • Store the wheel out of prolonged direct sun when possible.

When not to use

Skip mousse for prolonged highway use, overloaded adventure luggage setups not designed for foam, or any application the tyre/mousse makers do not approve. If you need adjustable pressure for mixed road/dirt, a tube or tubeless system may suit better — see Adventure riding.
